<p>Built in 1751 The Shoulder of Mutton is situated in the heart of Holcombe Village, on the west Pennine moors overlooking the Irwell Valley.  A known venue for cockfighting which took place on the premises until 1849.  The pub stands on the slopes of Holcombe Hill, where you can find the famous Peel Tower which is more than a local landmark it commemorates Sir Robert Peel, Prime Minister of Britain between 1841 and 1846, founder of the modern police force, (once named ‘Peelers’ and still referred to as ‘Bobbys’).</p>
<p>The village of Holcombe is a 10 minute walk away from the town of Ramsbottom, which is well known as the valley of Wild Garlic.  The pub is also famous for the starting point of the Holcombe Heritage Trail, a well known walk around the area.  Locals and visitors from miles around descend on Holcombe on Good Friday for the famous walk and egg rolling competition which as taken place for centuries.  Holcombe Village is a true Lancashire country village with a true English country pub – The Shoulder of Mutton.</p>
<p>The Should of Mutton sources all its produce from local suppliers and markets.  Some dishes may contain nuts and all weights are prior to cooking.  Alll our food is freshly prepared, please be patient with us at busy times.</p>
