The Big Walk Home is a walk from Manchester to Ramsbottom partly using the Irwell Sculpture Trail. The walk will start at 10am on Sunday 5th September at a Urbis and will finish at the Shoulder of Mutton.

The walk is 16 miles and the route is all very flat and easy so no special gear needed, just willpower water and food. You can view the route below or by clicking here.

As an added incentive we are aiming to raise some funds for Bury Hospice, if you want to help out and sponsor the walkers just visit the Just Giving page and submit a donation.

Parachute for FREE!! If you have ever wanted to do a parachute jump, here is your chance. Bury Hospice are looking for adventurous volunteers to make a fundraising parachute jump and if you raise enough in sponsorship you will get to jump for free!

There are three types of jump available – an ‘Accelerated… Freefall’ where you can experience the thrill of skydiving solo from up to 12,000 feet, a ‘Tandem Skydive’ from 10,000 feet, attached to a professional instructor and a ‘Static Line Jump’ which is performed solo from up to 3,000 feet and you can jump from any one of over twenty British Parachute Association approved airfields across the UK.

No experience is necessary as all training is given and if you raise over £360 (depending on the type of jump you choose) you will receive your jump for free. So, if you would like to make a thrilling skydive from 10,000 feet or an exhilarating solo jump from up to 3,000 feet, give us a call at the office on 0161 797 1748 and we will send you a full information pack and everything you need to take part in the experience of a lifetime.

I did this jump myself 12 months ago and I have to say it was the most incredibly exciting, adrenaline pumping thing I have EVER done and I would recommend anyone to give it a go. It is a truly life-changing experience and if I can do it at 49, so can you! Take a look at the Skyline video and my album of pics on the Bury Hospice Facebook page and then give me a call :)

Friendly Game
Ramsbottom United v FC United XI
Tuesday 3 August 2010

Memories are made of this. Remember the Rammy Rattler, the steam train full of FC United fans on their way to the game against Ramsbottom United at the end of season 2006-7. On a sunny Spring day, bystanders along the East Lancashire Railway line gaped at a train with steam belching from the front and bar scarves fluttering from every window. The Easter bunny, who looked more like the Donnie Darko rabbit, gave out chocolate eggs to any children who weren’t too frightened to eat. A few of the crowd accidentally invaded the pitch during the game, because a barrier buckled due to the capacity crowd, then at the end everyone invaded good-naturedly, because FC United had won their second successive promotion. The win had been secured at precisely the moment that one of the steam trains rattled majestically past the picturesque Riverside ground and to the predictable strains of “We won the football league again, down by the Riverside” we began our farewells to the North West Counties Football League who had generously given us our start.

Further match information to follow.

Saturday 11th September 2010

Village Hotel
Waterfold Business Park
Rochdale Road
Bury BL9 7BQ

Start Time: Midnight
End Time: 5:00am

www.facebook.com

We want you… in your brightest wigs, bunny ears and tutus, to do the Bury Hospice Midnight Walk, on Saturday 11th September starting at midnight. If you haven’t got anything outrageous, you can buy something from us on the night and help raise even more funds for Bury Hospice!

We want this year’s walk to be the biggest and best ever. Tell all your girlfriends, workmates, sisters, mothers and grandmothers. Young or old, all are welcome, tell every girl and woman that you know and lets see if we can smash some records!!!

Our Midnight Walk is a sponsored walk that starts at midnight for ladies who want to support the work of Bury Hospice. We start at the Village Hotel and walk a marshalled route, for approximately 10 miles around the Bury area.

It costs £1.8million a year to help local people and their families at a time when they need it most. We have to raise 80% of these costs ourselves through our fundraising events and trading income.

Many people are completely unaware of the Hospice and the work it does – until they become ill, or someone they love needs our specialist care – then they realise just how vital we are.

We can honestly say that every penny we raise is for our own community. The money you give us goes straight to those who need it. We are a local charity for local people, supported by local people and we need your help to make this year’s walk the biggest and best yet.

Registration is £10 for adults or £5 for 16 or under and includes a Midnight Walk T-Shirt, a medal and light refreshments at the finish.

We are also looking for male volunteers over the age of 18 to help on the night as marshalls, making sure all our ladies are safe throughout the walk.

For further details and to request a Midnight Walk Registration Form, contact the Fundraising Team on 0161 797 1748
