On the subject of Ramsbottom in the snow – and the poll currently on the website about the council doing more to keep the roads clear – I have a couple of observations and suggestions. I live on the Whittingham Drive estate and many roads on it are extremely slippery in the kind of weather we’ve had lately. In compacted snow, the surface is just a skid pan and the situation isn’t helped by people with perfectly functional drives who insist on parking their cars on the road, thereby presenting an additional menace to any driver striving to retain control in very challenging conditions. So my suggestions are that people park on their drives and that the council at least leaves (full!) grit bins on the estate so that we residents can do what they’re not prepared to?
